Yahoo Mail crashes Firefox

For the past week, when I logged out of Yahoo Mail, it crashes my Firefox and all other tabs. This happened on both Ubuntu and Windows. Another proof that GMail >>>>>>>> Yahoo Mail. Their Ajax stuff already consumes a lot of bandwidth upon logging in, making my other tabs load slower. One of these days they will just annoy me to the point that I cancel my Yahoo account…

2.0.14 still crashes on XP and Mac OSX. Whenever I close Yahoo mail. I do use firebug, so I’ll have to try the above fix.

I don’t know if this will help you guys but this is what fixed it for me: I had the Firebug addon installed. At work, disabling Firebug for the following sites prevents the problem:

login.yahoo.com

and

us.mg1.mail.yahoo.com

At home, that wasn’t good enough to prevent the problem and I had to add a third blocked site:

www.yahoo.com

It’s a shame the developer of Firebug doesn’t seem to be actively maintaining the addon lately. Did yahoo purchase it or at least is maybe part of the development process ? Seems like I read that somewhere once.

I’m running Firefox 2.0.0.12 and was consistently crashing after closing Yahoo! Mail and clicking away. This link had instructions that helped me: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes#Yahoo.21_Application_State

Okay.. this might sound weird, but when I set my preferred content (Account Information > Member Information > Preferred Content in the classic view) to India (did not test with other markets) and switch back to the Ajax version.. firefox no longer crashes for me. Of course, I am stuck with Yahoo India service.. with which I don’t have huge problems right now.. as long as logging out of Y Mail! does not close the other 6 open tabs. =)

Can someone suggest some remedy? Neither switching away from YaWho mail is an option, nor not using Firefox an option for me (though I could use Safari, but I am way used to Firefox). Its become an irritation now.

Best solution for this problem is to switch your Yahoo! account back to classic mail.

I am running Firefox 2.0.0.12 on Mac OS 10.5, and this problem seems to lesson. However, Firefox itself crashes way too often. It definitely has some memory leak problems. I hope this does not turn into another Netscape.

Maybe I should switch to Safari, but Firefox plugins are too good to dump…

Yahoo! Mail beta crashes Firefox 2.0.0.12 (and all previous releases from the last few months) for me almost every time I sign out (not every time, but most of the time).

Does this have anything to do with why Yahoo! fired their entire design team today (2/16/08)? Hmmm.

David, I think this happens on all platforms. I’ve seen it on Windows, Ubuntu Feisty, and Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The situation has improved somewhat because Firefox crashes less frequently, but it still occasionally crash. I think the problem could be Firefox though because the browser really should not crash because of a website’s code…

Nonetheless, Yahoo Mail sucks. They charge you for accessing it using POP/SMTP. GMail recently added SMTP support, which is golden. I will soon start to migrate all my mails from Yahoo to GMail. But I don’t really want to have to forward mails from Yahoo to my Gmail account. Is there a better way to do that?

I’ve been experiencing the same thing here, using Firefox 2 on a Win/XP machine. Happens nearly all the time whenever I leave Yahoo mail. And it isn’t just trying to logout but simply just navigating away by clicking on a bookmark or typing in a new URL in the address bar.

I have a hunch it isn’t entirely Yahoo mail – obviously there is something on their site that is causing it. But I only recently started experiencing this issue and I think it started around the time of the last Firefox update. I’m running version 2.0.0.11 now.

Hoping I stumble on a resolution, otherwise this is quickly going to cause me to cancel my Yahoo account as well.
